Directed by Eduard Pentslin, this Soviet adaptation of Jules Verne’s classic is a fascinating piece of cinematic history. While it lacks the high-octane CGI of modern versions, it compensates with atmospheric practical effects and a surprisingly gritty tone for its time. A patriotic, survivalist adventure that leans heavily into the ingenuity of its "colonists."
